We all live busier, bigger and faster lives than ever before. We fill our calendars, max out our credit cards and spend hours scrolling our smartphones comparing our lives to others.

Stress, anxiety and depression are at all-time highs and the promise of a simple life seems like a distant Pinterest dream. These days, simple living is a huge trend with entire YouTube channels and podcasts dedicated to simplicity. And their millions of viewers testify that consumerism, social media and demanding careers haven’t brought us the satisfaction they promised.

Does your own life  feel hurried, complicated and stressful?
Simplifying your life and decluttering your home will help you regain control of your time (and your money).
And by letting certain things go, you’ll be making room for what really matters.

Here are some of my favourite tips and reminders for you:
SET DAILY INTENTIONS
Before you even start the day, check in with yourself first. Ask what you need to get done that day to fulfill your own needs. It can be anything from getting everything done on your to-do list to being present in the moment.

PRACTICE MINDFULNESS
Mindfulness can refer to meditation, but it’s also a practice of embracing thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the moment. It is simply about being aware of how you’re feeling and what’s happening without trying to place any judgment or opinion on it. To help practice mindfulness, devote some time and space to quiet down and focus.

REPETITION HELPS
Variety can be the spice of life at times, but too much of it may make life more challenging. You don’t always have to find a new outfit to wear or a new recipe to try. There can be a joy in the simplicity of just having a wash, rinse, and repeat routine with certain areas of your life. Here are some examples of what you can repeat in life:
– Wear similar outfits throughout your week
– Have a regular takeout night
– Eat the same breakfast
The goal is to limit the amount of mental energy you have to use in your day and decrease any unnecessary work.

PAUSE
Pretend your life is a movie that you can press pause on when you feel like it. Allow yourself to slow down so you can be sure you’re making the best decisions. You can pause whenever you’re about to make a purchase, accept an invitation or choose something to eat. It’ll help you to make less impulsive decisions and more intentional choices that are in line with your priorities.

ELIMINATE TOXIC PEOPLE
Your circle should lift you up and not drag you down. Eliminating toxic people from your life is one of the hardest decisions you will ever make but will be for the best in the long run.If someone won’t change their negativity even after you’ve tried to talk about it with them, it’s time to let them go and move on.

PRACTICE RECEIVING
No matter if it’s pride getting in the way or the idea that everything must get done by yourself, consider asking for help. Many people struggle to admit when they need a hand with something, whether it’s a shoulder to cry on or a friend to help them pack for moving day.

FOCUS ON YOUR PRIORITIES
Simple living starts with a simple life. You need to know what matters in your personal life, to know what needs to be kept and what needs to be axed. You’ll find your life has less stress when you remove things that don’t serve you.

SET HEALTHY BOUNDARIES
An essential part of maintaining good mental health and overall well-being comes down to establishing boundaries. There can be emotional or physical, ensuring that people respect what you’re comfortable with and don’t demand more than you can give. SELF-CARE
When things get busy, we often forget to take time for ourselves. Self-care looks different for everyone, but it’s all about dedicating time every day for yourself. Our lack of energy is often a direct result of not taking care of ourselves. Old people know this better than anyone. The less you take care of yourself, the harder your life will be in the long run. All it takes is doing a few simple things daily.Get enough sleep, exercise regularly, eat properly, drink water often, get some sun, relax, and have good relationships.

FIND JOY IN YOUR DAILY ACTIVITIES
Life is filled with moments where we just have to do something that we don’t want to do. Despite that, avoid complaining about them, and find a way to put joy in the task. You could put on music you like whenever you’re cleaning your house. You can listen to podcasts when you’re taking your long commute to work.

CREATE A MORNING ROUTINE
As you embark on a simple life, you’ll want to create an automatic morning routine that helps give you structure for your new simple living way of life. Your morning routine should include things that allow you to live simply, such as making your own food, taking non-priority tasks off your to-do list…

Bottomline!
How do you keep your life simple? Begin living simply by trying out some or all of the things on this list. Whether you develop a morning or evening routine with limited activities is up to you. You can keep cell phones, but don’t become all consumed by them. Simple living is all about cutting out the things you don’t need so you can live your own lives with a sense of appreciation, magic, and beauty. Simple living is about giving yourself your life back. So, go on and practice simple living for yourself and see what the magic brings you.
